Bruce Johnson posted a distressing article on the Arts and Crafts Collector Web site regarding the uncertain future of Style 1900, the magazine published by dealer and collector, David Rago.
According to Rago, “Once September 2008 hit, advertising revenues for all print media nearly vanished, and in the ensuing years it didn’t make enough of a recovery. The closing of the Borders bookstores [in 2011] didn’t help.”
David Rudd, President of the Arts and Crafts Society of Central New York is also quoted in the article.

I really loved the Style 1900 magazine, It was very informative and why not? Anything Bruce Johnson contributes to has to touch the nerve and hearts of all of us that love the Arts and Crafts movement. I hope someone rekindles this magazine and the Style 1900 we love. I will be waiting……….

We all miss Style 1900 magazine as well. If you are a fan of Bruce Johnson, you are most likely already familiar with his Arts and Crafts Collector Web site at http://www.artsandcraftscollector.com. American Bungalow is a fine publication that covers many of the same topics that Style 1900 had. http://www.americanbungalow.com

Just discovered publications have been suspended when I started trying to telephone publisher about missed issues. Very sorry about this. It does seem a written explanation and answers concerning subscription balances should have been mailed to subscribers. I certainly miss the magazine. Perhaps a deal should/could have been made by American Bungalow to finish out the subscriptions of the faithful subscribers as a courtesy and possible new subscribers for American Bungalow..

As a subscriber who renewed in May 2012 for a subscription that was to go until October 2015 (using a special offer coupon), I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the publisher did not see fit to send a notice to subscribers. My first inkling that there was trouble was an editorial in American Bungalow. I also think that subscribers who had more than a year left on their subscription should have some kind of option – perhaps add their time to a sub for American Bungalow, or some other arrangement. It is certainly sad to see the magazine fold, but subscribers deserve better treatment even in difficult times.
